  • What is MUSIC CHOICE?

Music Choice is a commercial free satellite music service that encompasses 42 channels of digital, CD quality music in 12 different music categories. This service is brought to you by BEI. The music is up-linked to a satellite orbiting above the earth, then down-linked to your satellite receiver. You receive the music in a crystal clear sound, enhancing the atmosphere of your business. At all times you have control over what music you want to listen to, whether it be Classic Rock, Today's Country or maybe something lighter like Smooth Jazz or Easy Listening. Holiday's are covered as well with Sounds of the Season. Whatever the season, there is sure to be something playing on this channel that will please your customers. See our website or contact a BEI employee for a copy of the most recent Channel Lineup.

  • Why do I have a little TV hooked up to my Music Choice receiver?

Sometimes there are problems and the receiver sends a message to the screen explaining the problem or giving instructions on how to correct the problem. We here at Brion Enterprises pride ourselves in excellent customer service. We use the black and white TV as a trouble-shooting tool. In many cases the fix to a problem is very simple but we do not know what the problem is until we can see that message coming from the receiver. In most cases we can fix the problem over the phone, thus restoring your music service immediately as opposed to waiting for a service tech to arrive. The black and white TV should be used only for trouble-shooting or for changing channels. It should only be powered on when you are having trouble or by request of a BEI employee.

  • Why does my music cut out during heavy rain storms?

The technology used in the satellite receiver is very precise. Imagine that your music signal is riding on a very narrow radio wave coming from the satellite. The satellite dish must be aimed precisely at the satellite in order to receive the narrow radio wave. If the alignment is off more than a degree or two either way, the signal is not received. Because this signal is so narrow, it may be blocked by heavy rain, snow or even airplanes. Anything that is placed between the dish and the satellite's line of sight will cause an interruption in service. It is imperative that once the dish has been aligned that it not be bumped or moved or service will be interrupted. If you are planning to work on the surface where the dish is mounted, give BEI a call to schedule service and this will help to ensure a minimum of missed service.

  • What do I do when my receiver will not play?

There are a number of things that can cause your music system to not function properly, most of which are very simple to fix. Your Music system will generally consist of three major components: a) a satellite receiving system, b) an amplifier, and c) speakers. When music is not coming out of your speakers then it is necessary to determine which of these three components is not working. The first thing to check is that all power indicator lights are lit. If the satellite receiver power is on but the amplifier power is off, the music will not make it to the speakers. This is true in reverse as well. If the amplifier is powered on but the receiver isn't, there will be no music signal to send to the speakers. Some sound systems incorporate separate volume controls from the amplifier. These are generally located on a wall plate somewhere and must be considered to properly trouble-shoot.

  • Power is on to all devices, still no music...

Turn on the black and white TV that is supplied with your Music Choice system or look at the display on a PlayNetwork receiver. Unless otherwise instructed, the TV should be tuned to channel 3 or 4 and you should see a screen that shows what channel is playing. If you are getting the information showing what song is being played and can hear the music through the speaker of the TV but not through your house speakers, then the problem is not with the satellite receiver. A quick visual inspection of the system for any loose wires may indicate the problem. If your amplifier is powered on, and all the volume levels are set to a nominal level and you still have no music then this is an issue for a certified technician. Brion Enterprises recommends calling for a service tech any time there is a problem with wiring or electrical components for your safety and the safety of the equipment. If the message on the TV screen or receiver display indicates no such channel or channel not available this means that the receiver has been turned to a channel that does not exist in the system, or to one that your receiver is not authorized to receive. Simply change the channel back to one of the music channels by firmly and slowly pressing the numbered keypad on the supplied remote control. For example: if you wanted to listen toMUSIC CHOICE Solid Gold Oldies you would press 266 on the remote. You should notice the numbers changing on the TV screen. After a few seconds the receiver will change to the channel entered. Many of the remotes used on modern satellite systems are universal remotes meaning that they have the ability to control more than one electronic device. If your first attempt does not cause a response to the satellite receiver check to make sure that the remote is not trying to control another device, such as a VCR or DVD player. Simply press the button at the top of the remote that indicates the satellite system. After you have pressed the appropriate button, try changing the channel again. If this does not work, call BEI and we will trouble-shoot over the phone or schedule a service call. If you receive the message searching for satellite signal your satellite receiver is not receiving the narrow radio wave discussed earlier. This could be because of the signal being blocked between the satellite and the dish, or between the dish and the receiver. The Music system is totally digital but it still uses a wire to bring the signal from the dish to the receiver. If the coax cable is cut or broken, service will be interrupted. This message could also indicate a problem with the receiver itself so please call BEI immediately if you see this message.
